Lamont "Rue the Poet" Combs is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and In speaking with him I asked him to express himself as he would like others to know him on a deep and personal level. This is what he has to say:
"I am a force, a gift from GOD that propels the barriers of life through song. On a lyrics crusade, with an indelible style and charismatic flow, ordained to resurrect the soul of Hip Hop music in the purest form."
Rue the Poet, performed his first rap as a dare, during a 5th grade drug-free youth program. He originally had dreams of being a Visual Artist, but his innate gift for music was ultimately shaped and cultivated through his expsure to his father’s diverse musical colleciton, including greats to the likes of Smokey Robinson, Cameo, and Earth, Wind & Fire, to name a few. At a young age he was captivated by and admired Michael Jackson’s ability to capture imagination, and bridge it into reality. While singing in the youth choir at church and listening to his older brother's cd collection - these three elements is where"Rue" developed his ear.
Rue began writing rhymes in middle school and started sharing his gift around seventeen after an encounter with his Barber. Rue remembers after his barber heard him rap saying, “Midwest are story tellers, tell you story." Those very same words planted and seed in him that he nurtured and continued to use to guide him as a prolific M-C and entertainer today.
Rue the Poet is a Poet and an Artist whose electric approach to music reaches beyond Hip Hop. He speaks to the soul and connects to the inner emotions, with a musical college of truth, conscniousness and entertainment. Rue the Poet, unappologetically paints a picture of life, evoking an emotional euphoria that offers a refreshing realness and easy approach to life’s challenges.
Be sure to pick up his Mixtape Creative space and Other Stuff . I have a feeling the underground is about to make a comeback and take over again! An I can’t wait!!
This is what The OUTLET RADIO team had to say
Because one summary wasn't enough, we had to break it down a track at a time:
1.) Who is Rue- Loved the intro. Got a taste of what to expect from the album. The intro definitely set the tone for the entire project! I love the confidence and the positive representation of Milwaukee in every track.
2.) Mista nice to meet you- I love the poet in Rue. I immediately fell in love with the story that was told on this track. The flow was reckless and unstoppable! If you're looking for a song that spits straight fire with no chorus, this track will definitely do just that. BRING THE HEAT!!
3.) Y.G.B.Y-Love the choppy vocals mixed with a modern indie and hip hop vibe. The message was positive and uplifting. I definitely can pull up on the side of someone bumping this joint! Loved the fact the track had a bomb beat and lyrics with substance!
4.) I'm not perfect-Loved the reminder that we as of humans are not perfect especially us as artists.
5.) Bride of the Night-ENJOYED THIS ENTIRE BEAT!!!!! One of my favorites on the album!
6.) What- a- day-Loved this track! This sound was unique and provided you with a catch beat that made you feel good while listening. Definitely another one of my favorites on the album. The whole album is FIRE!!! Every production on this track was noticed and appreciated. A true artist at best was shown on this track and definitely through out the album!
9.) Y.G.B.Y the Wemix-The remix definitely came with more flavor and even more creativity! Great way to end the album.
I can't wait to see what Rue the poet has coming next!
